“We have many plans and tasks to promote the development of the innovation and technology sector in Georgia, since we have great potential and perspective in this sector,” - the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Davitashvili said during his speech in the format of the Ministerial Hour at the plenary session of the Parliament.
According to him, all this will be realized in the form of specific projects.
As noted by Levan Davitashvili, more than 200 innovative startups with global potential have been funded within the framework of innovation grant programs. The amount of grant funding is 35 million GEL, as a result of which the beneficiaries generated 120 million GEL of income, attracted up to 300 million GEL of private investment and created up to 3,000 new jobs.
In addition, the Economy Minister stated that, on the initiative of the government, training of 5,000 additional IT specialists will begin this year, who will receive education in the mentioned direction from the basic level.
,,This year, as part of the pre-acceleration program, about 130 beneficiaries have been trained in Samegrelo, Svaneti and Racha-Lechkhumi regions. With the support of the World Bank, over the last 2 years, more than 3,000 IT specialists have been trained for international certification, and with the financial support of the European Union, their number will increase to 4,000. At this stage, about 90 international IT companies are operating in Georgia, including such large international companies as Rakuten (Viber), Epam, Lineate, Exadel and others. These companies make significant investments in Georgia, create high-paying jobs, employ thousands of our citizens, promote the influx of IT talents and pave the way for other companies to enter the country. All this shows that Georgia is quickly and successfully appearing on the map of global innovations", - Levan Davitashvili said.
