“Based on the data of the previous years, the wine sales rose to 12%, which is a significant indicator. We have a partner, who has created 18 restaurants and showrooms of Badagoni-Georgia [Badagoni Brand representative centres] in different cities of central and southern China,” - the founder of the Badagoni wine company Giorgi Salakaia said on the air of Radio Sivrce.
"China entered our area at an interesting and important time - before the pandemic, we had seen a lot of growth in the Chinese market. During the pandemic, it was the only market where the supply of wine cut off, putting a damper on the sales. According to the previous years, sales in the Chinese market have risen to 12%, which is a significant indicator. The price segment was also important. We did not enter the Chinese market with all price segments. Despite the abundance of the population, the environment is quite competitive and the local wine industry is developing. As for the wine imported, 80 percent of the imported wine is French, and Italian wines have also aggressively entered the market. Then New Zealand, Chile and already Georgia appeared for 7-8 years. We expect an average increase of 10 percent in the wine sales this year," - Giorgi Salakaia stated.
In addition, according to the Badagoni founder, the markets of South Korea and Japan are worth noting, where the wine redistribution started in 2023.
"In 2023, the wines were initially redistributed to South Korea and Japan, where we expect exceptional sales growth. These three Asian markets are important for the Georgian wine," - Giorgi Salakaia said.
