“The First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Romeo Mikautadze participated in the conference titled Will resource efficiency create the basis for business success in Georgia, which was organized by the EU4Environment Green Economy program implementing partner, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and its national implementing partner, the Energy Efficiency Center of Georgia”, - the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia reported.
"We clearly understand the possibilities of the green economy and its potential for sustainable economic growth, job creation and poverty reduction. In the long term, resource efficiency in the industry will reduce business costs and increase competitiveness, employment and income. Resource efficiency enables new directions of business activities, production of ecologically clean and green products, development of sustainable transport systems and ecotourism, introduction of smart and resource-efficient technologies. As a result, we get an improved business environment, market diversification, more employment and better economic indicators," - said Romeo Mikautadze.
Romeo Mikautadze stated small and medium-sized enterprises represented 99.7% of Georgian enterprises.
According to him, the United Nations Industrial Organization (UNIDO) has developed a resource-efficient and clean production methodology to identify the sources of production losses. The methodology also allows the feasibility of reducing and eliminating losses to be developed and evaluated.
The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Solomon Pavliashvili, the Chair of the Parliament Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee Maia Bitadze, as well as representatives of international and non-governmental organizations also participated in the conference.
