
Within the framework of an official visit to the United States of America, an immediate response followed the meeting held in Washington between the Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Otar Shamugia, and the Special Representative of the US Department of State for Global Food Security, Cary Fowler, where the issue of Georgia's wheat self-sufficiency was discussed.
According to the Ministry, an additional meeting was held at the Consulate General of Georgia in New York, which was attended online by the General Director of the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), Bram Govaerts, from Washington.
The parties discussed the details of the issue of increasing wheat self-sufficiency in Georgia, one of the main prerequisites of which is the supply of quality seed material and subsequently increasing wheat production. Minister Otar Shamugia considered in detail the plans related to increasing the self-sufficiency of grain crops in Georgia, where the production of quality seed material is of particular importance.
According to the General Director of CIMMYT, International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center of America is discussing the mechanisms of promoting self-sufficiency of grain crops for Georgia.
