UN Resident Coordinator in Georgia Didier Trebucq stated that the UN has supported Georgia since its early post-independence challenges and now sees the country as an upper-middle-income state with strong growth and major progress in reducing poverty. He spoke at the signing ceremony of the 2026–2030 UN Sustainable Development Partnership Agreement.
Trebucq said the partnership is entering a new stage amid global uncertainty, conflict, inequality and the climate crisis. He stressed that evolving national needs require the UN to adapt its development support.
The new agreement, he noted, reflects a shared commitment by the UN, the Georgian government and partners to advance key reforms and accelerate progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals. He underscored that effective development relies on cooperation among government, civil society, business, academia and international partners.
Describing the document as a joint “action platform,” Trebucq said the priorities were shaped with input from government, youth and multiple stakeholders. He reaffirmed the UN’s readiness to continue inclusive work to support Georgia’s development.
He thanked the Government Administration and sectoral ministries for their close cooperation and expressed confidence in the agreement’s successful implementation over the next five years, built on coordination, solidarity and shared responsibility. “The Georgian people can count on UN support,” he concluded.
