The Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili stated that the war in Ukraine presents a moral dilemma for some Europeans, criticizing calls for prolonged conflict without responsibility. He emphasized that peace, not war, should be the goal of negotiations on the war’s anniversary, led by responsible states.
Papuashvili noted that some European leaders prioritize defeating Russia over Ukraine’s fate, expecting others to bear the burden. He highlighted the U.S. administration’s shift toward peace rather than Russia’s defeat, which has unsettled certain European politicians, including former Lithuanian FM Gabrielius Landsbergis.
He also underscored Georgia’s refusal to follow escalation advice, despite external pressure. Recalling a meeting with Baltic officials, he suggested their silence on Georgia’s stance against sanctions indicated agreement with its approach.
