
The British government, through its embassy in Georgia, reaffirmed that Georgia continues to support Ukraine in international forums, condemns Russian aggression, and calls for accountability for human rights violations.
The statement also encourages Georgia to improve its energy security by gradually reducing its growing reliance on Russian oil.
This week, the UK joined 24 other countries in signing the Convention establishing an International Claims Commission for Ukraine, a major step toward holding Russia accountable for its crimes. Georgia was also a signatory, continuing its support for Ukraine and condemnation of Russian aggression.
The UK and EU have announced new sanctions targeting Russia’s oil revenues, critical to funding the war. The UK has now sanctioned Russia’s four largest oil producers and is targeting four more to eliminate the remaining production from the global market.
The UK urged partners, including Georgia, to prevent imports from the Russian shadow fleet, which evades sanctions and poses safety and environmental risks. Reducing reliance on Russian oil will protect Georgia’s energy security and economic resilience while limiting funding to Russia’s war effort.
