Amiran Gamkrelidze, head of the National Center for Disease Control, says that today, under the decision, there are two COVID-19 "green passports" for internal and external use. The fact is that in Georgia, a green passport is issued to a person if he/she has ever been infected with the coronavirus, while the foreign practice mainly recognizes a person as "green", who has undergone the virus in the last 6 months. Consequently, it seems necessary to enact two “green passports” in the country.
"The main purpose of the “green passport” is that people experience some discomfort and the mission is the so-called incentive to go and get vaccinated. There will be two types of 'green passports', one for internal use, which states that if a person has ever been infected with the virus, they have “green” status, but internationally the QR code, which is checked at the border, is a bit different. A person, who has undergone the virus in the last 6 months, is considered green in that case,” - said Amiran Gamkrelidze.
When asked, whether there is a country in the world where those, who have experienced the coronavirus, are given permanent green status, Gamkrelidze refrained from giving a direct answer and said that most countries have a 6-month or 1-year term.
As for why "Covid-19 Passport" is not required in malls, the head of the NCDC explains that one of the best-kept recommendations in malls is to measure the heat, so at this stage the "Green Passport" does not apply to large malls.
As for the people who undergone COVID-19, but have not taken the test, due to which they are not included in the base, Gamkrelidze explains that the problem is known to them and the issue is being discussed.
