The Turkish-German airline SunExpress will start operating in Georgia from June 2023.
According to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, the airline will fly to the Tbilisi International Airport from the three Turkish cities: Ankara, Antalya and Izmir.
"We continue negotiations with the world's leading airlines in order to bring more of them into the civil aviation market of Georgia. For this, we actively use both bilateral negotiations and international aviation forums, such as ROUTES WORLD and others. We hope that by 2023 we will introduce more new airlines and significantly increase the geography of both destinations and countries", - the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Mariam Kvrivishvili, said.
The Deputy Minister praised the process of restoring the civil aviation market of Georgia - October 2022 was the first month after the COVID-19 pandemic, when the number of flights in Georgia exceeded the indicators of the same period of 2019. Flights were performed with a frequency of 384-395, which represents an increase of 5%. Totally, in 10 months of 2022, Georgian airports served 3,716,700 passengers, which is 85% more than the figure recorded in 2021, while the recovery rate compared to 2019 was 81%.
