Mamuka Mdinaradze, Executive Secretary of the Georgian Dream (GD) party, emphasized the need for balanced expectations and perseverance regarding the period following January 20. He highlighted two key promises made by former U.S. President Donald Trump that align with Georgia’s strategic interests: ending military conflicts, which would mitigate any risk of Georgia being drawn into a second front, and dismantling the so-called "Deep State."
“It is crucial to avoid both losing hope and setting unrealistic expectations,” Mdinaradze noted. “Trump’s ability to address these two priorities is what truly matters, regardless of personal opinions about him or his stance towards Georgia. The ‘Deep State,’ referring to informal and entrenched influences within state bureaucracies, poses a significant challenge. Should he succeed in reducing or eliminating these influences, Georgia’s geopolitical situation would improve substantially.”
Mdinaradze further explained the implications of these informal pressures on Georgia. “Global forces that promote either local or global conflicts exert influence on our country through these informal mechanisms. While we are currently managing this pressure and will continue to do so, the degree to which these influences are weakened will have a direct impact on Georgia’s strength and stability. The weaker these informal influences become, the stronger our nation will be,” he concluded.
