The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Gharibashvili, has made the first explanation regarding the suspension of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program. According to Irakli Gharibashvili, the government, the National Bank of Georgia and the IMF are in constant communication and there is nothing to worry about suspending the program.
The suspension of the fund program was caused by the amendments made to the organic law on the National Bank, which established the position of the first vice president in the NBG. The president had vetoed the bill, which was overridden by the parliament in June, and after its adoption, Natia Turnava was elected as the First Vice President of the National Bank of Georgia and took the post of Acting President.
"As for the IMF program, there is nothing to worry about. We are in constant communication with the IMF; it was simply suspended, when we made the amendments to the law and introduced the role of the First Vice President. We should continue communication; I think that the mentioned issue will be resolved very soon," - Irakli Gharibashvili said.
On September 26, the Acting President of the National Bank of Georgia, Natia Turnava, announced that the NBG would do everything to restore the IMF program.
