The Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili stated that the European Union cannot impose personal sanctions on individuals "without legal grounds."
In her comments, Botchorishvili emphasized that Brussels had "recently become accustomed to making unfounded and baseless statements" concerning Georgia.
"Unfortunately, we have seen such unjust approaches on numerous occasions, particularly over the past three years. When it comes to personal sanctions, especially against individuals, the EU cannot impose such measures without legal justification," the Minister asserted.
She also pointed out that certain actors are actively working to apply these mechanisms against Georgian citizens, expressing regret that Brussels is being used as a tool in this effort. However, she noted that Hungary and Slovakia are preventing this and will continue to do so.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó also criticized the EU's stance towards Georgia, describing it as "unfair and politically motivated." He stressed that there was "no reason" to sanction any Georgian politicians "simply because they are patriotic or conservative."
