
On March 23, Nina Macharashvili, the project director of Tbilisi - World Book Capital, and Nino Kiknadze, Deputy Director, held a special meeting to discuss the progress of the project, the challenges and the results achieved. They also talked about the Georgian program presented at the Bologna Children's Book Fair and the interest of foreign publishers expressed in the Georgian authors.
At the traditional The Illustrators Survival Corner of the Bologna Children's Book Festival, illustrators Ana Janelidze, Varlam Jmukhadze and Giorgi Jincharadze not only presented their work to the interested public, but also met with publishers and literary agents, introducing their own portfolio to them in order to plan further collaborations.
The exhibition organized by the Tbilisi Illustration Festival featured the prints of about forty works by ten illustrators working in Georgia. Proceeds from the sale of the works will be transferred to the Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund.
The International Project Manager at Tbilisi World Book Capital, Luka Grigolia, and illustrators talked about the shifts and innovations in the development of modern Georgian children's literature, while the founder of the Zoliani Kata (literally Striped Cat), Niki Tarkhan-Mouravi, spoke about the small challenges faced by the small publishing houses in Georgia.
The Writers' House introduced the children's author, Vasil Guleuri, to the visitors of the fair, who spoke about the importance of his own work and children's literature, in general.
Within the framework of Tbilisi - World Book Capital, a number of projects have been implemented to develop children's literature, including the establishment of the Tbilisi Children's Book Festival.
Tbilisi – World Book Capital is a UNESCO programme implemented with the financial support of Tbilisi City Hall. The general sponsor of the project is the Bank of Georgia. World Book Capital was launched by a UNESCO General Conference in 2001.
