During an official visit to Milan, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze met with the President of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana, and Vice-President Raffaele Cattaneo to discuss deepening cooperation between Georgia and Italy.
According to Tbilisi City Hall, the meeting focused on bilateral relations, potential joint initiatives, and expanding collaboration across various sectors. Mayor Kaladze, who previously lived in Milan, referred to the city as his "second home" and emphasized his personal and professional commitment to fostering closer ties between Tbilisi and Milan.
“There is significant potential for expanding cooperation between our cities—in culture, tourism, green urban planning, waste management, transportation, and more,” Kaladze said. “As Mayor of Tbilisi, I am fully committed to deepening this partnership. The Lombardy Region plays a key role in Italy’s economic development, and I would like to invite you, along with representatives of the local business community, to visit Tbilisi. Georgia and its capital offer excellent opportunities for investment and business.”
President Fontana welcomed the proposal and praised the growing relationship between the two regions, further supported by the recent opening of the Georgian Consulate in Milan.
“We are pleased with today’s meeting with the Mayor of Tbilisi,” said Fontana. “Lombardy is one of the most economically advanced regions not only in Italy but across Europe. We are eager to deepen our relationship with Georgia and Tbilisi. Mayor Kaladze’s invitation to lead a business delegation to Tbilisi is a valuable opportunity, and we are ready to work together to identify key areas of mutual interest and ensure the visit is productive.”
Both sides expressed enthusiasm for building on existing ties and exploring new opportunities for collaboration in economic development, urban innovation, and cultural exchange.
