Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze stated that the ruling party is successfully maintaining peace in Georgia despite facing serious challenges. His remarks came in response to Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili’s speech at the UN General Assembly, where the importance of peace was once again a central theme.
“There is no alternative to peace—not just for our country, but for the entire world,” Kaladze said. “Given the current global situation, preserving peace is vital. We manage this through daily effort and struggle. It’s not easy—there are competing interests from major political powers—but we are committed to defending our country’s sovereignty, independence, and freedom, earned through the sacrifices of previous generations. This legacy must be protected and strengthened.”
Kaladze also highlighted Georgia’s openness to international cooperation, while insisting that any partnership must be grounded in equality.
“How could we be against Europe or America?” he asked. “But when certain bureaucrats make threatening remarks based on falsehoods, we must stand up for our country and its interests. We welcome friendship and partnerships—but only when they are mutual. A relationship based on dominance—‘I’m big, you’re small, so do what I say’—is not real friendship or cooperation.”
Kaladze’s comments reinforced a message of national dignity, sovereignty, and the desire for equal international relationships amid a shifting geopolitical landscape.
