Tbilisi recently hosted a meeting of the national secretaries from the participant countries of the TRACECA (Europe-Caucasus-Asia International Transport Corridor), under the leadership of Guram Guramishvili, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
The agenda for the meeting encompassed discussions focused on enhancing the operational efficiency of border checkpoints along the transport corridor, as well as advancing the digitalization of railway and road cargo transportation systems.
The national secretaries reached a consensus on continuing their collaborative efforts to further improve the efficiency and competitiveness of the Transport Corridor.
According to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, in the first ten months of 2024, Georgia witnessed a notable increase in land-based international cargo shipments, with a total of 23.5 million tons of goods being transported. This marked a 3.5% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. Additionally, Georgian maritime ports processed 11.1 million tons of cargo, reflecting an 8.0% growth. Furthermore, from January to October 2024, the volume of containers shipped via the Middle Corridor from China to and from Georgia reached 10,848 TEU, representing a 13-fold increase compared to the same period in 2023.
