Tbilisi is hosting Defeating Putinism, the annual international conference organized by the McCain Institute for International Leadership, the George W. Bush Institute, and the Centre for Economic Policy Research.
The conference features the participation of European and American politicians and diplomats.
David Kramer, the Director of Global Policy at the George W. Bush Institute and former US Assistant Secretary of State, emphasized that the conference, in its eighth year, gathers supporters and friends of Georgia. It serves as a platform to express solidarity with the Georgian people and their democratic reforms.
“We want to express our solidarity with the Georgian people with Georgia’s democratic reforms and Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations. Obviously, Georgia, along with Ukraine and many other countries in this region, faces a serious threat that comes from Moscow, and that is the threat of Putinism, which is an effort to try to control the countries of this region, to deny their independence and their sovereignty. We want to show our support for the independence of Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Moldova and, of course, Georgia,” David Kramer said.
The two-day conference opened today, and its key themes include the war in Ukraine, the future of NATO and the European Union, and the formulation of policies against Putinism.
On September 3, the participants visited the occupation line to get acquainted with the situation on the ground.
