
According to the State Security Service of Georgia, an expert study was conducted to determine the authenticity of the coin, which involved experts from the Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau and scientists from the Georgian National Museum.
According to the examination, the coin made of copper was minted by David IV the Builder and is the original. The coin is of paramount historical importance and belongs to the cultural heritage monument. The market value of the coin is invaluable. Until now, the world history has known the only unique coin minted by the Georgian King David the Builder and preserved in the British Museum, particularly, in London. Although the case is under investigation and the coin is evidence of cultural heritage of special historical value, it will be handed over to the Georgian National Museum for proper storage and public access to allow the world to see a 12th-century Georgian artifact first discovered in Georgia.
The investigation also uncovered various artefacts of historical, cultural and scientific importance, the market value of which could not be determined. Among the artifacts found are - 12 units of a ring, a bronze pendant with a bell, six units of the original button, coins of different periods, three of these coins represent the Soviet period (XX century), while the three coins date back to the XIII century.
Notable are the coins dating back to the 13th century, namely a silver coin of Mongolian origin with the inscription - "The Great Mongol Ulus Beg", as well as a copper coin Rum Seljuk, on one side of which a fragment of an Arabic inscription is preserved. The mentioned artefacts will also be handed over to the National Museum,” the statement reads.
