The State Language Department of Georgia recently held a meeting with representatives from Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) to discuss the advancement of Georgian language teaching in China.
According to the department, the meeting was attended by Zhao Kang, Vice President of BFSU; Su Yingying, Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies; and Yuen Po, Director of the Georgian Language Department.
“The primary focus of the discussion was the promotion of Georgian language education at Chinese universities. Yuen Po, a professor at Beijing Foreign Studies University, alongside Nino Kochishvili, a doctoral student at Tbilisi State University, currently teaches Georgian at the university,” the department said in its statement.
The meeting also addressed the rules for Georgian transcription and transliteration of the Chinese syllable system, which have been jointly developed by the State Language Department and Chinese linguists.
“This system underpins the Chinese–Georgian language converter, which is currently being tested and will soon be made available to the public,” the department added.
The initiative reflects the growing academic and cultural cooperation between Georgia and China, aiming to promote greater linguistic exchange and mutual understanding.
