“USAID's Energy Future Assurance Program in Georgia and Foodservice Ltd. celebrated the official opening of the 500 kW solar power plant. This pilot project is a successful initiative of cooperation between the USAID and the private sector,” – the USAID Public Relations Service reports.
"The program provided technical and material assistance to Foodservice and equipped its parking lot with solar panels, which contributed 27% of the total cost of the project. The said solar power plant will generate 611,702 kWh of electricity annually, which will save the company's electricity costs by 15%, and the annual emission of greenhouse gases will be 287,458 kg. It will reduce by CO2 equivalent.
The opening of the solar power plant is one of the important steps forward for Georgia to switch to clean energy sources. The project demonstrates investment feasibility and profitability in the direction of renewable energy, and it will set an example for other businesses.
The USAID supports the development of renewable and clean energy sources in Georgia through the involvement of the private sector. The USAID has recently allocated additional funds, in cooperation with the private sector to implement 30 pilot projects by October 1, 2026.
