Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has claimed he knows how to dismantle what he calls a growing criminal network in Georgia, expressing hope that he will soon be able to return and assist the country.
"I hope I will soon have the opportunity to help Georgia," Saakashvili wrote in a Facebook post.
Highlighting a recent murder in Batumi—outside the building where his daughter Alisa had planned to spend her vacation—Saakashvili painted a grim picture of the country’s security situation.
"A man was shot dead just days ago in front of the very house where my daughter was set to stay. I haven’t seen this kind of criminal atmosphere since the early 1990s," he said.
He blamed the current state of lawlessness on what he described as mafia-style governance led by billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili.
“The spread of criminality is inevitable, including contract killings and street violence, when the country is ruled by a classic mafia, headed by its own Don Corleone—Ivanishvili—who settles business disputes through arrests and prison vendettas.”
Saakashvili concluded by asserting that his political and leadership experience—both successes and failures—equip him to offer solutions.
"Taking into account my positive and negative experiences, I can help. I know how to end the criminal network in the country."
