Roadside inspections for carriers will be conducted in designated roadside zones across Georgia starting this year, following the implementation of recent amendments to the Law on Road Traffic. These amendments, which take effect this month, mandate inspections for vehicles classified under categories M2, M3, N1, N2, N3, O3, and O4.
Violations identified during these inspections will incur administrative fines ranging from ₾500 ($177) to ₾5,000 ($1,779), depending on the severity of the offence.
The scope of the inspections will encompass several key areas, including adherence to regulations for transporting dangerous goods, compliance with driver work and rest requirements, proper use of the tachograph electronic control card, vehicle technical condition, and cargo securing practices. Additionally, inspectors will assess compliance with international road transport permits, the installation and calibration of control devices and speed limiters, and the vehicle’s mass and dimensional limits.
The inspections will be conducted by the Land Transport Agency, operating under the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The specific regulations governing roadside inspections within designated zones will be outlined in a Government decree.
