Georgia’s Revenue Service has issued a firm statement defending the country’s adherence to international sanctions and condemning what it described as a misleading media report by Formula TV.
The statement, released in response to a June 7 broadcast by Formula, called the report “another instance of disinformation and defamation.” It alleged that the outlet misrepresented information despite having received a detailed official response to a June 4 inquiry about sanctions enforcement procedures.
According to the Revenue Service, Formula aired only a brief excerpt of its official explanation and disregarded a specific request not to alter or selectively quote the information. The report also included unverified claims directed at a senior Revenue Service official, which the agency strongly condemned.
Clarifying details about a vessel mentioned in the report, the Revenue Service stated that the ship and its owning company are not under any international sanctions. The vessel entered Georgia legally, and its cargo underwent proper customs procedures. Claims suggesting otherwise were described as “entirely false.”
The statement emphasized Georgia’s strict compliance with all sanction-related regulations and described the enforcement mechanisms in place. The Customs Administration currently operates 37 active risk profiles to automatically detect sanction-related concerns. This system functions continuously and is managed by specialized personnel trained by sanction-imposing nations.
The Revenue Service reaffirmed its ongoing collaboration with international partners—including the United States, the European Union, and other allied countries—to ensure Georgia’s practices align with global sanction enforcement standards.
The agency urged media outlets to rely on verified, transparent information and official sources when reporting on such sensitive matters, warning against politically motivated efforts to mislead the public.
