
The Azerbaijan-Georgia business forum ongoing in Baku was attended by the representatives of 40 business companies from Georgia and 100 companies from Azerbaijan. It was held by the European Union-Georgia Business Council (EUGBC) in cooperation with the Embassy of Georgia in the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Georgia, as well as the Export and Investment Promotion Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
As the Secretary General of the EU-Georgia Business Council, Zviad Chumburidze, stated, the parties agreed that the forum would take place annually. According to him, this was the first time when Georgian business offered cooperation in all directions to the business sector of Azerbaijan.
"All sectors were covered from Azerbaijan's side. This was the first time, when [the Georgian] business offered the Azerbaijani business sector cooperation in all directions. There was interest in all directions, particularly, tourism, real estate, free industrial zones, transport and logistics and all major sectors. We also agreed with the Azerbaijani side that the forum should be annual. Our goal is to meet directly with representatives of the business sector to facilitate direct contacts," - Zviad Chumburidze, stated.
As for the cooperation, the Hualing Free Industrial Zone Executive Director, Soso Nibladze, named a specific project the Azerbaijani and Georgian sides will cooperate on.
"At the event, we signed a memorandum of understanding regarding one of the major projects. This is an area near Baku, where a port and a free economic zone are being developed with a large investment. This project was initiated by the government of Azerbaijan about 2 years ago and we signed a contract with them. The entire government of Azerbaijan ensures the development and operation of this infrastructure," - Soso Nibladze noted.
To be informed, the companies participating in the business forum represented various fields of activity, such as investment partners/ legal/consulting companies, transport and logistics, food and beverage, distribution services, construction, energy, tourism, health and medicine, accessories.
The Georgian business companies made presentations to learn about their potential for export destinations and opportunities for further cooperation. The forum opened with the panel sessions, followed by the presentations, and the event continued with B2B meetings between the company officials from the two countries to meet the potential partners.
