
The representatives of the Communications Commission of Georgia and the World Bank Mission met with the local people, digital support program participants, digital volunteers, local civil society and non-governmental organizations, as well as local Internet companies and the Mayor of Ozurgeti Municipality in Ozurgeti [the capital of the western Georgian province of Guria] in order to support the project of the State Program of Internetization.
The World Bank Mission officials aimed to become familiar with the parties involved in the Log-in Georgia project "Digital Support Program", including its beneficiaries on the ground. The meetings were held by Natia Kukuladze, a member of the Communications Commission, Charles Harp, the Project Manager of Log-in Georgia, as well as representatives of the World Bank Mission and Communications Commission.
The Communications Commission, within the framework of the Log-in Georgia project "Digital Support Program", has started conducting trainings and information meetings for the population of Ozurgeti Municipality. Gradually similar meetings will continue in the municipalities, where the internetization project is scheduled to be implemented.
To be reminded, the Communications Commission, with the support of Open Net and in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, is implementing the Log-in Georgia project "Digital Support Program", which aims to promote useful and safe Internet usage.
Citizens will be trained through a special program developed on the basis of the results of the Digital Needs Assessment, which covers important topics such as: safe use of the Internet, information retrieval methods, Internet for communications - useful online applications, Internet user rights, Internet for employment, distance education, public online services, financial digital Services, e-commerce and digital marketing.
The Log-in Georgia project is co-financed by the World Bank and the European Investment Bank to support the Government of Georgia's State Program of Internetization. The project aims to internetize up to 1,000 villages and settlements in Georgia and provide high quality and affordable internet services to up to 500,000 rural individuals, as well as to promote the development of digital skills and make good use of digital services. The pilot project of Internetization was launched in Ozurgeti at the initiative of the Government of Georgia, which was completed in May 2021; as a result, 49 thousand inhabitants of 49 villages of Ozurgeti will have access to high-speed, broadband Internet.
