The Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Irakli Nadareishvili participated in the review of the initial assessment of Georgia in the updated ranking of the SME Policy Index, which was presented by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). In the previous three assessments, Georgia was the leader among other countries of the Eastern Partnership of the European Union (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Moldova).
Heads of donor organizations in Georgia, as well as public and private sector and business associations also participated in the discussion.
Irakli Nadareishvili spoke at length about the economic trends of Georgia, as well as the steps taken by the country's government in the direction of promotion and development of small and medium-sized businesses.
According to him, with the coordination of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, with the support of the European Union and the German government and in close cooperation with the OECD and GIZ, the 2021-2025 strategy and the corresponding action plan for the development of small and medium entrepreneurship of Georgia were developed, which was approved by the relevant resolution of the Government of Georgia.
“The reforms that ensure the improvement of the legislative, institutional and operational environment for small and medium entrepreneurship, raising entrepreneurial skills, increasing access to finance, improving access to the market, promoting innovation and research and development, developing women's entrepreneurship and promoting the development of small green economy will continue,” - Irakli Nadareishvili stated.
It is noteworthy that the new ranking of the OECD's SME Policy Index will be published at the end of this year.
