"Thirty-six years ago, we faced an external force; today, we still confront one that seeks to undermine our national interests," stated Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to journalists at the Sameba (Holy Trinity) Cathedral.
Kobakhidze dismissed recent responses to comments regarding the events of April 9 as mere "empty speculation."
"I draw this parallel because, once again, an external force is working against our national interests. The so-called 'Deep State' is employing the same tactics as the Soviet KGB did 36 years ago, although now it uses European bureaucratic structures instead of American ones. The methods have not changed, and unfortunately, this Deep State has co-opted European institutions for its own agenda. This must stop. We will remain resolute in our stance on this matter and do everything in our power to safeguard our national interests and the welfare of our society. Unity, not division or hatred, serves the best interests of our people. We are committed to preventing anyone from creating artificial divisions within our society and will focus on promoting unity. As the government, we represent all citizens, and it is our duty to care for everyone, including those who might be sowing discord under external influence. Our task is to guide them onto a more constructive path," Kobakhidze asserted.
He further emphasized that certain grants and NGOs are attempting to stir hatred in Georgia, employing Soviet-era methods.
"This law is not aimed at grants in general; it is specifically designed to combat hatred," he stressed.
The Prime Minister assured that the government would closely examine the purpose of all incoming grants and approve them only if they align with Georgia’s national interests.
"The government will thoroughly evaluate the objectives of all grants before approval. We will not allow anyone to use these channels to spread hatred or sow division within our people. This law marks a significant step in our ongoing efforts to prevent the artificial incitement of hatred in our society," the Prime Minister concluded.
