According to the portal, local exporters are passive because they have stocks, while demand for Turkish nuts in Europe is growing. At the same time, a positive dynamics of prices was observed in Turkey, which is not felt in Georgia yet, although the EastFruit analysts hope that interest in Georgian hazelnuts will also increase.
According to Mundus Agri, Turkish hazelnut prices continue to rise after a certain decline, although still lagging behind the levels of 2021 and 2020. Analysts say if the next crop in Turkey is good, and large stocks from the previous crop remain, it will have a negative impact on the price of hazelnuts in Georgia. Moreover, Turkish traders no longer expect the great damage caused by freezing temperatures.
The Georgian Hazelnut Growers Association stated that in the conditions of high quality crop and remaining volume, the Georgian hazelnut industry must become effective quickly. About 30% of the crop remains in Georgia, which, according to the Association, is a very large amount. Within the last 5 seasons, or from April to August, only 10-20% of the crop was exported from Georgia. Unsold significant stocks could cause a price drop even more this season.
