
Speaking at a ceremony in Batumi marking International Maritime Day, Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili praised the strengthening of the maritime sector, crediting consistent, effective, and results-driven government policy for its growing significance.
"Thanks to a focused and consistent approach, the maritime profession holds greater value today than ever before. Through targeted and effective measures, the sector has seen real progress and development," the President stated.
President Kavelashvili congratulated Georgian seafarers on their professional day and extended his best wishes for their continued success. In his remarks, he also underscored Georgia's strategic geographical position and its rising importance in international shipping and transit.
"The maritime sector plays a crucial role in unlocking Georgia’s full transit potential," he said. "In a world marked by ongoing conflicts and instability, Georgia stands out for maintaining peace and stability—making it a reliable and trustworthy partner."
Highlighting the country’s ambition to revive its historic role as a key link between East and West, Kavelashvili noted, "With prudent government policies, Georgia has the opportunity to serve as the shortest and safest route connecting Europe and Asia—reviving our legacy as part of the ancient Silk Road."
He concluded by noting that Georgia is currently home to over 19,000 professional seafarers, reinforcing the sector’s significance for the nation's economy and global presence.
