“It’s heartbreaking. It’s a 47th day. People [are] gathering in the street, demonstrating for Europe, for our values, for freedom, for democracies, they are brave heroes. And that’s why I always repeat – Tbilisi and many other Georgian cities are the true capitals of Europe,” Michael Roth, the Chairman of the German Bundestag’s Foreign Affairs Committee, said after meeting the opposition figures in Tbilisi.
“If you want to feel the European spirit, don’t travel to Berlin, or to Rome, or to Madrid, or to other nice cities in the European Union. No! Travel to Tbilisi. Travel to Georgia. Here you can feel what Europe really is. Europe is, first and foremost, a union of values, freedom, anti-corruption, democracy, the rule of law, and an independent judiciary. That’s important,” Michael Roth told reporters.
