Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, sharply criticized the British Embassy, accusing it of breaching both the Vienna Convention and the Strategic Partnership Agreement between Georgia and the UK.
“The Embassy referenced the Strategic Partnership Agreement as if Georgia were in violation, but in doing so, it shot itself in the foot,” Papuashvili said, claiming the UK had no legal standing in the matter.
He reiterated earlier claims that the British Ambassador interfered in Georgia’s elections by publicly criticizing the ruling party, “Georgian Dream,” days before the vote—an action he says violates Article 41 of the Vienna Convention.
Papuashvili also accused the UK of breaching multiple articles of the Strategic Partnership Agreement, including those related to respecting sovereignty, strengthening democratic institutions, and combating corruption. He cited the UK’s alleged tolerance of Davit Kezerashvili, wanted in Georgia for financial crimes, as an example.
“If the British Embassy wants to discuss legalities, they should be prepared to confront their own violations,” he concluded.
