MP Levan Makhashvili, a member of the ruling Georgian Dream party, announced that he and his colleagues will meet with members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) monitoring committee. The committee observes political developments in Georgia and evaluates how the actions of political actors align with the country’s commitments to the Council of Europe.
According to Makhashvili, it is essential that the delegation’s report provides a clear conclusion regarding the events of October 4. He emphasized that the assessment should not only examine the government’s role but also consider the actions of all political actors and state institutions involved.
“We will carefully review and evaluate the report,” Makhashvili stated. “If it fails to clearly address the events of October 4 and the responsibility of radical groups, then any subsequent reports will seem, at best, insincere and, at worst, unfair toward us. An objective observer must approach the situation without bias or external influence, as impartiality is crucial in such evaluations.”
He added that Georgian officials are prepared to discuss all issues raised by the delegation and to present their own questions as well. “As far as I know, the Speaker of Parliament will also meet with the delegation in his capacity as head of the legislative body,” Makhashvili concluded.
