OSCE Raises Concerns Over Georgia’s New Foreign Agents Law Impact on Civil Society

The OSCE’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) expressed concerns today over Georgia’s newly adopted law requiring individuals and organizations acting in the interest of foreign entities to register as foreign agents. The law, aimed at transparency of foreign influence, raises alarms about its potential to restrict civil society activities and the rights to freedom of expression, assembly, and association. ODIHR called for a reassessment of the law, urging that it should enhance, not limit, civil society’s role in democratic processes. They emphasized the need for legal frameworks that comply with international standards and safeguard human rights.
