Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán commended Georgia’s economic achievements during a meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, calling the country’s 7% growth rate a “galactic phenomenon.”
Speaking at the second session of the Georgia-Hungary Intergovernmental Commission in Budapest, Orbán highlighted Georgia's exceptional performance amid broader European economic struggles.
“The European economy is suffering greatly now. If anyone has more than 1% economic growth, that is a great achievement. Therefore, your 7% growth is a galactic phenomenon,” Orbán said. “I know this is truly the greatest result of your efforts.”
Orbán described Hungary’s cooperation with Georgia as a “great honour,” noting that such close and comprehensive partnerships are rare. “There are only two or three countries with which we have such friendly relations and cooperate in this format,” he stated.
He emphasized the unique nature of the intergovernmental commission, where cooperation spans across entire governments rather than isolated ministries. “It is a sign that not individual ministries, but the entire government collaborates with our government,” Orbán added.
Orbán also praised Georgia’s deep historical roots and Christian heritage, underlining shared values and a mutual appreciation for national pride and sovereignty.
“It is a great honour to cooperate with you because we both love freedom,” he told Kobakhidze. “Phrases like ‘I love my homeland’ and ‘I am proud of my country’ are already considered shameful in the West, but we still love saying these words and are pleased to host guests who share these sentiments.”
