“Organized by the National Bank of Georgia and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), an official meeting was held with the aim of raising awareness of the rights of internally displaced persons from other countries to Georgia - IDPs and homeseekers - in dealing with financial organizations,’’ - the National Bank of Georgia reports.
Reportedly, the meeting focused on the mandate and role of the National Bank of Georgia as the regulator of the banking and financial sector in this direction, as well as on the challenges that citizens of other countries and their representatives may face while dealing with financial organizations.
The National Bank officials spoke in detail about the rights of financial sector users, including citizens of other countries and persons seeking asylum and refugees in Georgia, and the approaches and obligations of financial organizations in dealing with them. The conversation also touched upon the legal requirements for preventing money laundering and terrorism.
Protection of consumer rights is one of the priorities of the National Bank of Georgia. In this regard, the Central Bank of the country has already implemented a number of projects and activities. Accordingly, it is planned to hold similar meetings in the future.
