
“The first round of the negotiations on the free trade agreement between Georgia and the United Arab Emirates has begun,” - the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia reported.
From the side of Georgia, the group of government negotiators is headed by the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Genadi Arveladze.
"On the basis of the agreement on comprehensive economic partnership with the United Arab Emirates, Georgia will benefit from the free trade regime with the Emirates, which means that a 10-million market with a high purchasing power will be opened for Georgia's local producers," – Deputy Minister Genadi Arveladze said. According to him, the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement will potentially cover trade in goods, rules of origin and procedures of origin, customs administration and trade facilitation, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, technical barriers to trade, trade defence instruments, investment, trade in services, digital trade and many other issues.
In December 2020, the Ministers of Economy of the two countries made a decision to start negotiations on a free trade agreement, while on May 9, 2022, the document on the terms of the negotiation of the Agreement on Comprehensive Economic Partnership between Georgia and the United Arab Emirates was signed in order to promote economic, trade and investment relations between Georgia and the Emirates.
