,,Diplomatic conversation does not imply recognition or non-recognition. My job is to speak up when we see violence, brutality, and illegal detentions. This is precisely what I raised when I was called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday,” stated the EU Ambassador to Georgia, Paweł Herczyński.
“I am a diplomat. My role is to have channels of communication open with everyone and speak to everyone. Diplomatic conversation does not imply recognition. Diplomatic conversation does not imply non-recognition. I meet and I talk to everyone. I talk to people that I agree with, and I also talk to the people I don’t agree with.
As a diplomat, I’m simply doing my job. I know that I have been criticized by the government. I know that I have been criticized by the president. I have been criticized by some representatives of the opposition. I have been even criticized by some European politicians. I’m simply doing my job. As the European Union, we cannot keep silent. We need to speak up and I will use every connection, every contact at my disposal to present the European Union’s position.
I am not a politician. I don’t need to be elected or reelected. It’s not about my popularity. It’s about doing my job. My job is to speak up when we see violence, brutality, and illegal detentions. This is precisely what I have raised when I was called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday,” - Paweł Herczyński stated.
