“Maia Sandu is dissatisfied with Georgia’s foreign policy, yet thanks to this very policy, Georgia’s economy is twice as large as Moldova’s, up to five billion larger,” said MP Levan Makhashvili, Chairman of the Parliament’s European Integration Committee.
He noted that Georgia’s economic indicators are within normal limits, while Moldova’s are markedly out of line.
“Sandu’s statement was strange, but given her history of attempting to damage Georgia’s reputation, it was not unexpected. She is displeased with Georgia’s foreign policy. Let me remind everyone that, thanks to this policy, Georgia’s economy is twice as large as Moldova’s, the difference is up to five billion. Georgia’s economic parameters are stable, while Moldova’s are completely off course. I don’t know if it’s envy or something else, but the fact remains: Georgia’s current foreign policy has driven unprecedented development. There are various attempts to label the Georgian government as Russian, and many reasons behind these efforts,” Makhashvili said.
He added that U.S. President Donald Trump explained how such labels are used to discredit a nation or its people.
“Neither history nor the tactics used by Sandu against Georgia are new. Our goal is not emotional politics. We follow a pragmatic policy. Many are annoyed by this approach and prefer emotional rhetoric. That’s their choice, but we have our own path. How much this affects them is their concern. Sandu is trying to make a name for herself by insulting Georgia,” Makhashvili concluded.
