Organized by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, the presentation of the current year's report on the tourism and aviation industry of Georgia was held at the Pullman Tbilisi hotel.
The event was attended by the representatives of the public and private sector, including associations, tour operators, airlines, donor organizations and other guests. The Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Davitashvili opened the event with a welcome speech.
Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, presented the report on the tourism and aviation industry to the public.
“As mentioned at the presentation, the existing action plan for the restoration of tourism has yielded results, which is confirmed by the data available today - according to the data of September 2022, compared to 2019, the restoration of international tourist visits amounted to 83.8%, and the restoration of international travelers' visits was 65.3%.
As for the total data for January-September 2022, compared to the same period of 2019, the recovery of international travelers' visits in 9 months of the current year amounted to 53.8% and reached 3,892,605, and the recovery of international tourist visits was 67.8% (2,704,133 visits).
An impressive growth was also observed in the recovery of revenues from international tourism - compared to January-August 2019, a 94.6% recovery was recorded in the same period of the current year, and the revenue figure reached $2.1 billion. Individually, only in August the dynamics of tourism recovery amounted to 126.7%," - Mariam Kvrivishvili said.
Compared to 2019, a 100% increase was observed in the aviation sector in terms of resumption of air routes and airlines, as well as flight frequencies. It should be noted that at present 43 airlines operate flights to 86 destinations in the Georgian air market.
The tourism strategy for 2025 was also highlighted at the presentation, according to which, by 2025, it is planned to increase the number of international travelers to 10 million, and the revenues from international travel to 5 billion dollars.
