“A memorandum of understanding was concluded between the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and the United Nations Women (UN Women) and was signed by the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Nunu Mitskevich, and the UN Women Country Representative to Georgia, Kaori Ishikawa,” - the Ministry of Education and Science reports.
The memorandum envisages cooperation between the parties in different directions. The document covers the issues such as promoting gender mainstreaming in the general education system, overcoming the gender stereotypes in students, increasing the gender sensitivity in teachers and students, as well as improving, systematizing and monitoring of the reporting of domestic violence cases by educational institutions.
The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia also envisages the creation of a gender mainstream platform for educational resource centers and general education institutions.
Importantly, the training module "Gender Mainstreaming in Education: Gender-Based Violence and Domestic Violence" has already been developed for school principals, teachers and school resource officers. A relevant training has already been conducted for the teachers and resource officers, who will further train their colleagues in the same field.
Cooperation between the United Nations Women (UN Women) and the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia is part of the project "Violence Against Women and Girls", which is being implemented by the United Nations Women and the United Nations Population Fund with the support of the European Union.
