The Marco Polo Hotel in Gudauri has expressed satisfaction with its bookings for the winter tourist season. Mako Chikoidze, Business Development Director of the Gudauri Ski Resort and Marco Polo Hotel, stated that February is over 90% booked, while 80% of the hotel’s rooms are already reserved for March.
High Booking Rates for the Winter Season
According to Chikoidze, the hotel experienced strong booking activity as early as October, securing 80% of reservations for the entire winter season by that time.
Rise in Local Tourist Activity
Chikoidze noted an increase in the share of local Georgian tourists at the Marco Polo Hotel, particularly after mid-January.
International Tourist Trends
The hotel has also attracted a diverse international clientele, with a significant number of visitors from Israel, Gulf countries, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Scandinavian nations. Additionally, guests from Great Britain, the Netherlands, Canada, and the United States are frequent visitors to Marco Polo.
Focus on Individual Bookings
During the winter season, the hotel primarily accommodates individual bookings rather than corporate reservations, reflecting the nature of tourism during this period.
Impact of Political Events on Bookings
Addressing the potential impact of recent political events in Georgia, Chikoidze acknowledged some initial concerns from international tourists. "We received inquiries from foreign visitors about the safety of the environment. However, after providing timely and transparent responses, cancellations were minimal. We emphasized that the situation involved democratic protests and reassured our guests. This helped maintain our bookings," she stated.
Chikoidze noted that the political events had a more noticeable impact on corporate bookings and events within Georgia, but did not significantly affect the hotel’s overall occupancy.
Improved Snow Conditions Enhance Tourist Satisfaction
Discussing the winter sports experience, Chikoidze highlighted improvements in artificial snow systems in Gudauri, which have enhanced skiing conditions. "This year, the artificial snow systems are performing much better, covering more kilometers of slopes. Tourists are satisfied as they can enjoy skiing, which remains the main attraction," she concluded.
