Levan Makhashvili, Chair of the European Integration Committee, strongly criticized the resolution adopted by the Council of Europe Congress regarding Georgia, calling it “unacceptable.”
Makhashvili called on those who claim that democracy in Georgia is deteriorating to review the sessions of the parliamentary commission investigating the government’s actions from 2003 to 2012. The commission has addressed critical issues such as raids, torture, prison abuse, state capture, and racketeering.
“We witnessed violence in front of the parliament. In the U.S., throwing a Molotov cocktail is considered domestic terrorism, yet some portray similar actions in Georgia as peaceful demonstrations,” Makhashvili pointed out. He also criticized the misleading characterization of the Transparency Law as the “Agents Law,” noting that the law is actually lenient in terms of responsibility.
Makhashvili concluded by emphasizing that anyone questioning Georgia’s democratic state should examine the commission's findings, offering to personally translate and explain them. "Those raising concerns should read, listen, and see the reality for themselves," he said.
