Lasha Abashidze has been appointed as the new General Director of Georgian Railways, officially introduced today by First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili, alongside Deputy Minister Guram Guramishvili.
Minister Davitashvili praised Abashidze’s extensive leadership experience in both the railway sector and public service, expressing confidence in a smooth transition. He also thanked outgoing director David Peradze—who held the role since 2017—for his contributions.
“The smooth operation of the railway is critically important for Georgia’s economy, especially in light of the ongoing development of the Middle Corridor. Our goal is to increase both cargo volumes and revenue,” Davitashvili stated.
According to the Ministry of Economy, Abashidze previously held several senior roles at Georgian Railways between 2006 and 2009, including Head of the Procurement Agency, Deputy Director of Freight Transportation, and Head of Operations Management. He holds a law degree and a master’s in public administration management.
His public service record includes terms as Vice Mayor of Tbilisi (2015–2017), Governor of Vake District (2014–2015), and Head of the Presidential Administration (2013–2014).
