
Georgia and the Kingdom of the Netherlands have agreed on the mutual recognition of seafarers’certificates. The corresponding memorandum was signed within the framework of the visit of the delegation of the Maritime Transport Agency of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia to the Netherlands.
The Kingdom of the Netherlands is a leading maritime nation and one of the largest fleets in the world sails under this flag. Seafarers, who have received certificates in Georgia will have the opportunity to be employed in one of the strongest fleets in the world. Negotiations on the signing of the memorandum with the Dutch side have been actively going on for several years, and the Embassy of Georgia in the Kingdom of the Netherlands was also directly involved in it.
The head of the Maritime Transport Agency, Tamar Ioseliani, positively evaluated the signing of the memorandum and expressed hope that this would move Georgia's cooperation with the Kingdom of the Netherlands to a new stage in the maritime sphere. According to her, the reforms carried out under the Association and Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreements with the European Union and the technical assistance provided significantly improved the quality of services and their availability in the maritime sphere of Georgia.
"Our goal is to develop even closer ties with the EU countries in the fields of maritime safety, security and marine environment protection. The key reforms carried out by Georgia include the complete renewal of the education, training and certification system of seafarers and bringing them into compliance with international standards and requirements," - Tamar Ioseliani stated.
It is noteworthy that Georgian sailors can already be employed in the fleet sailing under 73 naval flags, among which are 20 EU member states.
