The meeting of the Committee on Sectoral Economics and Economic Policy of the Parliament of Georgia with the Kazakh-Georgian Economic Union officials was held on Wednesday, May 25, where the activities of the Kazakh-Georgian Economic Union, research and recommendations were discussed.
A study prepared by TBC Capital was presented to the meeting, which was opened by Davit Songhulashvili, the Chairman of the Committee on Sectoral Economics. The issues of the Georgia-Kazakhstan economic cooperation were discussed.
According to the research fellow on economic policy at Geocase, Giorgi Abashishvili, who had participated in the meeting, noted that it was very important for Georgia to strengthen economic relations and cooperation with Kazakhstan.
"There are several important factors in this regard, including, of course, the country's food security, and hence, having relations with Kazakhstan is an important part. We must also take into account that there is a solid potential for tourism growth. We must bear in mind that the purchasing power of Kazakh tourists is also distinguished by our statistics. It is important to note that today, given the current global situation, Georgia's transit potential is even more important, and in this regard, the intensification of cooperation with Kazakhstan plays an even greater role. Also, the Kazakh market in a number of the export products is very interesting to us. Cooperation in the field of logistics and infrastructure is also significant," - Giorgi Abashishvili explained.
The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Georgia Baurzhan Mukhamejanov and the Chairman of the Board of the Kazakh-Georgian Economic Union Giorgi Jakhutashvili.
To be informed, the diplomatic relations between Georgia and the Republic of Kazakhstan were established on July 24, 1992, after the collapse of the USSR. The main areas of cooperation between the two countries are energy, transport and agriculture.
Kazakhstan was one of the largest investors in Georgia. The Kazakh investments are placed in the energy and tourism sectors of Georgia.
