In a public statement ahead of Georgia’s October 4 local elections, Bidzina Ivanishvili, Honorary Chairman of the Georgian Dream party, urged citizens to vote freely and peacefully, framing the election as another key test for the country’s stability, sovereignty, and democratic progress.
“On October 4, we have the chance to once again show that our struggle is no longer in the streets, but at the ballot box — to protect peace, stability, and the values we fought for,” Ivanishvili said.
Reflecting on the significance of October 1, 2012 — when Georgian Dream came to power — Ivanishvili described it as a turning point that ended authoritarian rule and restored dignity, freedom, and sovereignty to Georgia. He emphasized that the ideals behind that victory remain central to the party's mission.
Ivanishvili warned of both internal and external threats, accusing certain foreign powers and their local allies of trying to undermine Georgia’s independence through pressure, disinformation, and political manipulation.
He highlighted the government's achievements over the past 13 years, including peace, economic progress, and institutional strengthening, while acknowledging past mistakes and betrayals within the party. Still, he stressed that the Georgian people have consistently chosen the path of freedom and national interest.
“Our nation has learned to recognize truth from lies and friend from foe. No foreign power can decide our future — only we can,” he stated.
Ivanishvili concluded by urging all Georgians to turn out and vote, saying this election is not just about local governance but about defending Georgia’s hard-won peace and continued path toward unity and prosperity.
“Long live the united Georgian people! Long live united Georgia!” he declared.
