“The 6th session of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Georgia and the Czech Republic ended with the signing of a protocol, which defines the priority directions of trade and economic relations between the two countries,” - the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reports.
According to the Ministry, from the Georgian side, the protocol was signed by the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Genadi Arveladze.
"We are ready to further intensify and strengthen our bilateral trade and economic ties, given that there is still huge potential in this area. According to the 2021 statistics, bilateral trade turnover increased by 31% and exports - by 3%. There is untapped and unexplored potential in bilateral trade and economic relations, I believe we have the opportunity to increase exports," - said the Deputy Minister.
Genadi Arveladze said in order to develop bilateral economic relations, it is important for the private sector of both countries to make the most of the benefits provided by the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) activated between Georgia and the European Union.
“I would like to welcome the opening of the CzechTrade office in Tbilisi, which, I am confident, will be an important player in further promoting and developing bilateral trade and investment cooperation.
The Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation discussed the issues related to deepening relations between the countries in the fields of trade, investment, energy, transport, tourism, agriculture and other priority areas. It was noted that based on the 2021 data, the Czech Republic is among the top three investor countries in Georgia; its investments carried out in Georgia's energy sector have exceeded 82 million USD.
Within the framework of the Commission, a Georgia-Czech business forum will also be held in Tbilisi.
