\The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, with the involvement of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), developed the 2024-2028 strategy and action plan for the sustainable development of the Georgian aquaculture. According to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, the mentioned documents were presented to the members of the civil committee, field specialists, representatives of associations and farmers.
The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Tengiz Nasaridze attended the meeting of the committee, which was organized with the support of the European Union, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
The Deputy Minister spoke about the steps taken in recent years for the development of aquaculture in the country and noted that due to its importance, an aquaculture development unit was created in the structure of the Ministry.
It should be noted that the development of aquaculture is a priority issue for the Ministry; In 2020, the law on aquaculture came into force in the country, and in 2023, 8 locations were allocated in the coastal areas of Adjara, Samegrelo and Guria to accommodate marine aquaculture farmers. As a result of the steps taken, in 2024, the European Union officially recognized the fishing certificates issued by the state agencies of Georgia, which gave the Georgian entrepreneurs the opportunity to export fish and fishery products caught in the sea to the European Union market.
