The 123rd round of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) meeting is being held in the village of Ergneti following a two-month hiatus, amid growing concerns over borderization and unlawful detentions near the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL) with Georgia’s Russian-occupied Tskhinvali region.
Participants in the meeting are reviewing the latest developments along the ABL, including recent incidents of illegal borderization, the erection of artificial barriers, and the detention of Georgian citizens.
According to Irakli Antadze, Deputy Director of the Analytical Department at Georgia’s State Security Service (SSSG), the situation has worsened in recent weeks, particularly in Kareli and Gori municipalities, where Russian occupation forces have installed iron fences and barbed wire, and conducted other infrastructure modifications.
“We will touch on all incidents. The borderization process extended to the Dvani, Avlevi, Atotsi, Ghogheti, Ergneti, and Ditsi villages in Kareli and Gori municipalities. Illegal artificial barriers were erected in the villages, and firebreaks were also arranged. In most cases, old infrastructure was renewed,” Antadze stated.
Currently, ten Georgian citizens remain in captivity, while five others were recently detained in connection with the ongoing occupation-related activities.
The IPRM, co-facilitated by the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) and the OSCE, remains a key platform for dialogue between Georgian authorities and de facto representatives of the occupied regions, aimed at reducing tensions and addressing humanitarian and security concerns along the ABL.
