As Murjikneli points out, the Russia-Ukraine war has radically changed the situation in ports around the world, respectively, the directions of cargo turnover have also changed.
"Demand for the use of our corridor from the Central Asia to supply their products to the Western markets is growing. Until now, one of the ways to export this cargo was Russia. For example, the demand has increased from the Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan), which is an economically quite growing region. For their part, the demand for handling the same petroleum products and cotton has increased. The country should benefit from this opportunity. In terms of receiving additional cargo, the ports of Batumi and Poti should be used more frequently, because cargo handling is important for the development of the country's economy," - Murjikneli noted.
According to the Director-General of the company, the Batumi Multimodal Terminal is now working at full capacity, therefore, they will not be able to receive the cargo that they did not calculate from the beginning.
"The company can receive 1.5-2 million tons of bulk cargo per year. We only carry loads of mineral fertilizer and carbamide (urea). In order to achieve this result, we are ready to receive another half a million ton of urea by the end of the year," - Murjikneli said.
The Batumi Multimodal Terminal provides receipt, storage and dispatch of mineral fertilizers, in particular, urea. It connects cargo coming from the Central Asian countries to the Western market via Georgia. The project was implemented with a $ 25 million investment in partnership with Trammo, and ADIA, one of Forbes' 250 largest private American companies. The terminal started operating in August 2021.
